This Week In Clockworkland

As we busy ourselves with writing, it occurs to us that a lack of blogging may give the impression that we’re being lazy. While you and I both know that nothing could be further from the truth, we have decided to avert any possibility of such thoughts with a weekly update. Besides, there’s always lots to talk about. How have you been, for example?

We’ve been busy. Thusfar all recording talk has revolved around the release of a single. As you may know, we’re heading into to the studio with the amazing Torsten Kinsella of God is an Astronaut. But, as things go, somewhere down the line the idea of a single was scrapped and instead we find ourselves preparing for an album.

Exciting, I know, but also a lot of work! So, over the past couple of weeks we’ve been fine-tuning new songs, and writing even newer ones. So far we’re very happy with the results, and can’t wait to try them out live. With that in mind, we’re hoping to play some hush-hush & low-key shows over the next month or so in order to road test the new material. On May 16th we’ll be playing the Sunday Roast in the Mercantile, and have promised to debut at least SOME of the new material there.

Our planned recording method will involve some home recording too, so this week has also seen us testing out our setup. There’s something incredibly exciting about setting up a makeshift studio in your bedroom- if only I could get the monitors to work…

Technical troubleshooting aside, things are going quite well. We’re looking at a situation where we might have an abundance of material for the album, and may face a few tough decisions on what to cut and what to include. That’s often a heartbreaking one- our first recording took it’s title from a song which didn’t make the final cut itself, and in some way I still feel strangely guilty about that.

But, I suppose, it’s a far better situation than not having enough songs, and having to compose elaborate intros and outros just to kill time.

This week’s other news in brief:

We were featured on Irish Music Television.

We got tickets to see Beirut (yay).

The official Clockwork Mailing list was started.

Odessa Club for Little Xs for Eyes on Thursday

Bewley’s Cafe Theatre for Dufus on Friday

Tis gig heavy alright, but having missed out on LCD Soundsystem due to Volcanic disruptions last week, we don’t mind a couple of crazy days listening to music.

As I type this I’m hearing about “This music blogger IMRO licence thing“, so I’m off to read about that and hope this doesn’t mean the end for Ireland’s amazing music blogosphere.

Until next week!

A Clockwork Remix

Regular visitors to these pages may be savvy to hints we’ve dropped about our diving into the magical world of remixing- well, the time has finally come to drop the remix itself upon the world.

For our remixing debut we tackled ‘Bad Boyfriend’ by awesome Dublin band Talulah Does The Hula, and we’re quite happy with the results. It was a lot of fun to make, and we plan on doing more remixes in the future (suggestions on a postcard).

You can check out the original version of the track here, and our effort below. Enjoy!
