This Week In Clockworkland 5

Hello hello,

Apologies for the delay in this week’s update- let’s blame…. um,  the economy.

So last week was a great one for us- the Knockanstockan launch was amazing- we made a load of new friends from around the world, so expect our album tour to be making stops in the USA, Brazil, and Germany (at the very least). Greystones was also really successful, with great performances by Monsenior & Stars on Fire making the night as enjoyable for us as i’m sure it was for everyone else.

Our scheduled in-store at Music Maker was postponed at short notice, so apologies to anyone who was put out by that. I’ve been talking to Neil at the store, who’s been really helpful, and we’re gonna sort out a rescheduled show soon.

News, you ask? Why, yes, we have plenty below.

This Week In Clockworkland 4

Hello internet types!

Another busy week, another bout of mild exhaustion. That said, as a band we seem to work best when under pressure, so it’s no suprise that we’re going through our most productive period to date right now. This is the very best kind of busy.

After a late night on Sunday, attempts at practicing on Monday evening were futile, so a rather relaxed writing session took place instead. We ate a lot of chocolate biscuits, worked on our arsenal of upcoming new tracks, and put the finishing touches on the two which were debuted at the Sunday Roast. You learn a lot from playing a song live. In retrospect, I think that was one area where our last EP suffered- the tracks were born in the studio rather than on the stage, and only evolved with performance after they were committed to tape. Hence why I’m delighted that this time round we’re getting to road-test everything before we start recording- it should make for a much livelier sounding record.

This Week In Clockworkland 3

Greetings from the land of exhaustion! It’s been a very busy week for us all, which thankfully means lots of news and tales of fun for me to regale you with now. Hopefully I don’t fall asleep before I finish…

We had a great practice session tonight down in Silverline studios. Mike is getting us all trained to wear earplugs (safety first, children), which resulted in much hilarity (shouting at each other from two feet away; pretending that you still couldn’t hear what was being said, oh, how we laughed..), but a fair bit of work was done, too. New songs are coming along- we seem to have hit our stride in translating them from the writing room to the full on performance, so lets hope that keeps working.

One more practice tomorrow, then off to the Mercantile on Sunday for the Sunday Roast. This is a gig we’ve been looking forward to for a while, so are really excited. It’s free in, and come with potatoes, so you have no excuses.

Greystones Theatre Double Headliner

Next Saturday (May 22nd) we’ll be playing a double headliner in Greystones Theatre with the amazing Stars On Fire. As well as the usual material, we’ll be using the opportunity to test out some new tracks, so can’t wait!

Support on the night comes from Wicklow’s Monsenior, who sound fantastic- check them out here.

All in all it should be a great night- as some of you may know, Greystones Theatre is Ireland’s first BYOB venue, so stack up on cans & naggins (what an awful word…) and prepare to be entertained til the wee hours.

I’ll update this post (and this poster) as soon as I get final details on ticket prices & door times (unfortunately it’s only myself who operates at this ungodly hour of the morning).

In the meantime- don’t forget that we’re playing the Sunday Roast at the Mercantile, Dame street THIS SUNDAY. Which is free. And comes with free potatoes. It’ll also feature the debut outing of some of these new songs I’ve been harping on about. Which will be fun.

This Week In Clockworkland 2

Hello internet types, and welcome to the second installment of our weekly updates!

How did the week treat you? For us it was a mixed bag.

Unfortunately Michael’s been sick, so that’s hampered our practice plans thusfar. Maybe some get-well-soon messages will speed him back to recovery send em here! Sickness aside, we’ve been working away at the ol’ writing. It’s nice having a deadline (we’ve promised to have new songs for our Sunday Roast appearance on the 16th), because I, for one, certainly seem to work better under pressure. One particular track got it’s first full run-through today, and I’m pretty excited about how it sounds, so can’t wait to give it a public airing. It’s a relatively quiet song (which suited to drummerless practicing, i guess), but one that still sounds Clockwork-y. I foolishly forgot to record it at practice, so it remains in the ether for now, but will hopefully get a version on here soon enough. In the meantime I must concentrate on the small matter of naming it…
