This Week in Clockworkland 7

Well we’re well and truly into summertime now, and as such our last few weeks have been quite summerlicious. Clockwork Noise now have two festivals under our belt, and it’s definitely something we could get used to.

First was our trip to Sligo for NPLD. Mike & Chris decided to get into the spirit of things, and headed up on Saturday night to join in the party, while the rest of us hit the road in the early hours of Sunday morning- arriving up to picture perfect festival weather. We managed to catch fellow Wicklow-ites Bocs Social playing the Dome, and were shocked that we’d never run into them before (you should check em out, they’re awesome). After a quick costume change (twas fancy dress, you know), we set up and played our set, which was well received enough to warrant our first ever encore- something we happily delivered, despite the fact that I was close to passing out with the heat (costume tip: three-piece suits do not suit festival weather).

This Week In Clockworkland 6

Hello world, there’s a fair bit of stuff to get through this week, so you’d best put the kettle on.

Let’s break this up into sections for ease of reading, and writing.

Le Album:

As the more eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed, we’ve started broadcasting our recording sessions live on Justin.tv. We’re hoping that the entire process will be very open, so you can follow our progress over the next few months, and even interact as the album begins to take shape.

At the moment we’re putting down demo versions of the songs that will possibly be on the album. This is kinda like doing a rough sketch, so we get an idea of what works and what doesn’t. At the moment we’ve got about 15 songs that are album possibilities (in truth, we’ve slightly whittled that down in the last hour, but more on that momentarily), so the demos will help us decide which ones will make the cut. We’ll be recording the album in a 50-50 fashion, with some of it being done ourselves, and the rest being done with Torsten Kinsella, from God Is An Astronaut. The demos will also be used to give Torsten an early impression of where exactly we’re going.

For our part of the recording, we’ve converted Michael’s practice room into a studio (dodgy phone pics below). This is what you’ll see from our live broadcast on Justin.tv. At this point, the plan is to record roughly fifty percent of the album here, and the rest of it in Torsten’s studio.

This evening was our ‘getting the ball rolling’ meeting with Torsten, and it’s left us both excited and nervous. There’s a lot of work to be done, a lot of decisions to be made, a lot of practicalities to be considered. Our immediate plan is to complete the demos in the next week or two, and then decide on a tracklisting, before recording the drums proper in Torsten’s place. We’re now looking at about 12 tracks in contention for either 10 or 11 spots on the final album, so there’s a few songs that will have to use the demo process to fight for their place.

Anyway, we’ll be keeping our twitter/facebook/etc updated whenever the recording is in session, so keep an eye on those to see when the channel is going online.

What’s the channel address? Why, of course it’s www.justin.tv/clockworknoise
